Swiss Association of Energy Geoscientists

A newly created Swiss organization with know-how and experience in the domain of energy resources.

At the 78th Annual Convention in Yverdon les Bains the General Assembly of the previous „Swiss Association of Petroleum Geologists and -Engineers“ has agreed to a very substantial change of the purpose of the association, requiring also a change of name. The new organization is called:

 SWISS ASSOCIATION OF ENERGY GEOSCIENTISTS

 SCHWEIZERISCHE VEREINIGUNG VON ENERGIE GEOWISSENSCHAFTERN

ASSOCIATION SUISSE DES GEOSCIENTIFIQUES DE L’ ENERGIE

 ASSOCIAZIONE SVIZZERA GEOSCIENZIATI DELL’ ENERGIA

With this change of name the association gives itself a new face and takes up a new role in the public domain.  The association was founded in 1934 by a group of Swiss Geologists, working abroad for international companies. Today the association has over 330 members and is after „CHGEOL“ the second largest geological professional association in Switzerland. The members come from a broad range of occupations in the energy sector and reflect the multinational character oft the association. The broad spectrum of professional experience ranges from fossil energy to the increasingly important renewables, like e.g. geothermal energy. Teaching and Research at Swiss and foreign universities is also well represented.

At a time when the energy policies of Switzerland and Europe are being redefined, this broadly based Association of Energy Geoscientists forms a unique pool of professionals with considerable know-how and experience in the field of energy resources. The association is able and determined to introduce a factual and scientifically well-founded voice into the discussion on the energy future of Switzerland.

In the Swiss Bulletin for Applied Geology the change of name of the association will take place in the issue 16/2 (2011).

For the Board: Peter Burri, President
